GEORGE HEWITT 1804

This is the last will and testament of me GEORGE HEWITT of the City of Carlisle in the County of Cumberland as follows,that is to say.First I order all my just debts and funeral expenses to paid out of my personal estate or such part thereof as my executors by sale thereof may think most proper but nevertheless it is my desire that no part of my ancient

household furniture should be sold,but in case the rest of my personal estate may be insufficient for the payments of my debts,I hereby empower and authorise my trustees herein after to be named to raise money sufficient for that purpose by sale,mortgage or otherwise of my real estate,I will specify and acertain in a schedule to be annexed to my last will and in such bequests of such schedule being so made and annexed,I empower my trustees to raise the same from my estate as they think most proper,But it is my wish that my houses and real property in the said City of Carlisle,rather than any other,may be appropriated to that purpose.I also give and bequeath unto my daughters MARGERET,SARAH,MARY ELEANOR and JOYCE LYDIA the sum of five hundred pounds apiece with which I charge all my Freehold,Leassehold and other messuages,lands and tenaments,herrditaments and premises situate, lying and being in several Parishes of Beaumont,Stanwix,St Mary's Carlisle or elsewhere.I also devise to JOHN ROBINSON of Longburgh,THOMAS DIXON of Carthanwaite,LANCELOT OLIPHANT of ?,JOSEPH LIDDELL of Kirk Andrews aforesaid and the survivor or survivors of them their heirs of such survivor all and every messuages,lands,tenaments ,hereditaments and premises whatsoever until my son GEORGE HENRY HEWITT attains the age of twenty one years in order that they may receive the rents and profits thereof and pay and apply the same for and towards the education of my Son and three daughters and I hereby direct that the legacies above to my two said daughters MARGERET and SARAH,and MARY ELEANOR to be paid at the time of my son's attaining his said age and that the legacy to my youngest daughter be paid to her at the age of twenty three years having interest thereof allowed her from the time of my said son,s coming of age.till the same shall be paid and I also direct that such part of the rents and profits of my said estates as may remain unexpended in the education and maintenance of my said children till my son come of age shall be applied by the said trustees in the payment of interest of my debts or the presence of such part thereof as the same shall be adequate unto and or my said trustees shall not be answerable for such..Other but for his own acts and deeds only,nor shall they be accountable for any money which shall be lost except by wilful neglect or mismanagement all the residue of my personal estate,goods,chattels, and credits whatsoever.I give and bequeath to the said JOHN ROBINSON,THOMAS DIXON,LANCELOT OLLIPHANT,JOSEPH LIDDALL,JOHN BLAYCOCK and JOHN NORMAN upon trust that they or survivors or survivor of them after payment of all my debts and legacies do pay and divide the same equally to and amongst my three daughters

or the survivor or survivors of them or the personal representatives and hereby appoint the said JOHN ROBINSON,THOMAS DIXON,LANCELOT OLLPHANT,JOSEPH LIDDALL,JOHN BLAYCOCK and JOHN NORMAN joint executors in trust of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my seal and name the thirty first day of August one thousand and seven hundred and ninety eight,GEORGE HEWITT signed sealed and published and declared by the said GEORGE HEWITT the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence of each other have hereunto subscribed as witness thereunt.WILLIAM WILKINSON,JOHN BOUISKIL,STEPHEN MORTON.
