JAMES HEWITT 1766
Administration
At Carlisle March 31st 1766
On which day appeared personally EDWARD HEWITT of the Parish of Christchurch of the County of Middlesex,Merchant, and alleged that JAMES HEWITT late of the City of Carlisle in the Parish of St Mary Carlisle and Diocese of Carlisle,Merchant,Deceased,died intestate without making any will,so far as he doth know or believe,and that JANE HEWITT,Widow, and Relic of the said deceased hath renounced the Administration of the goods of the said deceased and that JANE HEWITT,FRANCIS HEWITT,and ANN HEWITT the natural and lawful children of the said deceased are minors and by reason thereof not capable nor law qualified to take upon them the letters of administration
of the goods of the said deceased.And he further alleged that he the said EDWARD HEWITT is uncle by the fathers side of the said minors whereof he prayed letters of administration of all and singular goods,chattels and credits of the said JAMES HEWITT deceased to be granted to him the said EDWARD HEWITT for the use,benifit and behalf of the said JANE HEWITT,FRANCIS HEWITT and ANN HEWITT minors aforesaid during there minority on his giving sufficient security in that behalf.
The said EDWARD HEWITT was sworn in due form of Law to the truth of the promises and also will and faithfully to administer the goods of the above named JAMES HEWITT deceased for the use and benefit and behalf of the above mentioned minors during their minority,and to exhibit and notify and soforth when required.

Know all men by these present that We EDWARD HEWITT of the Parish of Christchurch in the County of Middlesex,Merchant,HENRY WAUGH of the City of Carlisle,[Lawyer?]and JOHN IRVING of the said City,are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend father in God,Charles by divine permission Lord Bishop of Carlisle in Five Hundred pounds of real and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney,his executors,administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly be made.We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole and each and every of our heirs,executors,administrators firmly by these present,Sealed with our seals dated the thirty first day of March in the sixth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord,GEORGE the third by the grace of God of Great Britain,France and Ireland,King defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty six.

The condition of this obligation is such that if the above boundend EDWARD HEWITT administrator of all and singular the goods ,chattels and credits of JAMES HEWITT late of the City of Carlisle in the Parish of St Mary,Carlisle,merchant,deceased for the benefit and behalf of JANE HEWITT,FRANCIS HEWITT and ANN HEWITT ,minors,natural and lawful children of the said deceased in there minority,do make and cause to be made true and perfect,inventory of all and singular the goods,chattels and credits of the said deceased,which have or shall come unto the hands,possession or knowledge of him the said EDWARD HEWITT or into bit or cause to be exhibited into the registry of the Consistory Court of Carlisle at or before the last day of June next ensuing ,and the same goods,chattels and credits and all other goods,chattels and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death,which at any time after shall come to the possession of him the said EDWARD HEWITT or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him do well and truly administer according to law.And further do make and cause to be made a true and full account of his said administration at or before the last day of March 1767 and all the rest residue of the said goods,chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrators accompt,the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or judges for the time being of the said Court shall deliver and pay upon such person or persons respectively of the said Judges or Judges by his or her decree or sentence,pursuent to be true intent and meaning of the late Act of Parliament made in two and twenty three years of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King Charles the second,entitled a Act for the better settling of intestates estate's shall limit and appoimt,and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the said deceased and the executor or executors therein named do exhibit the same unto the said Court,making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the said EDWARD HEWITT above bounden being thereunto required to render and deliver the said letters of admistration,approbation of such testament being first had and made in the said Court,then this obligation to be void or else remain in full force and virtue.
