I JACOB HEWITT of the City of Carlisle in the County of Cumberland,Joiner and Cabinet Maker.Do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following,that is to say.I give and devise unto my friend JOHN ISMAY of Woodside in the Parish of Westward in the said County,yeoman,THOMAS BRISCOE of Scotby in the Parish of Wetherall also in the same County ,schoolmaster, And JOHN IRVING of the City of Carlisle aforesaid,yeoman, and their heirs all my freehold houses,edificies and buildings situate and being in the said City of Carlisle in the said County and all those my two closes or enclosures of ground situate and being in Sowby in the Parish of Ashton in the said County and all my freehold,houses,buldings ,lands,tenaments and hereditaments situate and being in the city of Carlisle and Parish of Ashton aforesaid or either of them .To hold the same with their respective rights,members and appurtenances upon and to the use of the said,JOHN ISMAY,THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING their heirs and assigns for ever,Upon trust never the less and thereunto at and purpose that the said JOHN ISMAY.THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING or their survivors or survivor of them or their heirs of such survivors do and shall with all convenient speed after my death absolutely sell and dispose of the said several houses,edificies,buildings,closes or enclosures and other premises with their appurtenances either together or in parcels in public sale or by private contract for the best price or prices and most money that can most reasonably had or obtained for the same.And out of the monies arising from such sale or sales together with the money to make from my personnel estate hereinafter mentioned and upon trust in the first place to pay and discharge all my just debts and funeral expenses and all other charges and expenses attending the said sale or sales and in the next place pay unto my neighbour or housekeeper ANN BURGESS,widow, the annuity or yearly sum of one pound and ten shillings for and during the term of her natural life and for that purpose to obtain revenue in their hands so much of the said monies as shall enable them from time to time to pay and discharge the said annuity unto her the said ANN BURGESS during her natural life which annuity or yearly of one pound ten shillings hereby give and bequeath to them accordingly the same to be paid by two equally half yearly payments in the year the first half yearly payment of fifteen shillings to begin and be made at the end of six calendar months next after my death and as to the rest residue and surplus of the monies to arise from my said real and personal estates and the rents and profits of the said real estate till sale[after making the each and all the aforesaid deductions and payments]upon trust that they the said JOHN ISMAY,THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING and their survivor or survivors of them and their heirs of such survivor do and shall lend out the same at interest on said security or securities as they may think fit and from time to time pay and apply the yearly interest and produce thereof unto and for the maintenance and education of my son EDWARD HEWITT until he reaches the age of twenty one years.and my will and mind is that my said trustees shall have full power and authority at their discretion to call in any such part of monies and pay and advance the same in the way of placing my said son,apprentice in or to any trade or business or otherwise in putting him forward therein previous to his attained the age of twenty one years.And from him attaining the said age them to pay all such monies so to be invested or be as aforesaid and so much thereof as shall not have been called in and advanced in the manner afore said together with the interest then due for the same unto my said son EDWARD HEWITT to and for his own proper means being of it.And in case my said son Edward shall die before he attains the age of twenty one years having no lawful issue of His body then the trust to pay the same unto my sister ELIZABETH TWENTYMAN,widow,her executors,administrators or assigns,And my will and mind is that not any of the persons who shall purchase the said premises to be sold as aforesaid or any part thereof and shall pay the purchase money to my said trustees or their survivors aforesaid of them or their heirs of such survivor shall be in any way liable to my legatees,creditors or any other person or persons for what shall be paid although it should happen that the money is so paid or any part thereof should not be applied according to the intention of this my last will and testament but every such purchaser and their ? by him or them so purchased shall be forever freed and discharged from all claim and dividend of my legatees,creditors and every other person to such purchase of money so paid to my said trustees or their survivor or survivors of them as aforesaid. and to all my goods,chatels,,nonies, personnel estate and effects whatsoever and whereinsoever I give and bequeath unto the said JOHN ISMAY,THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING upon them to convert to money

with all convenient speed after my death and the monies arising there from to be paid applied and disposed of in manner herein before mentioned..And I do hereby constitute, and appoint the said JOHN ISMAY,THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING and the survivors or survivors of them tutors and guardians of my said son EDWARD HEWITT and of his estate and fortune until he reaches the age of twenty one years.And then the said JOHN ISMAY, THOMAS BRISCOE and JOHN IRVING I hereby make ,constitute and appoint joint executors in trust to my last will and testament.And I di hereby order and direct that they and every one of them shall retain and be reimbursed all costs,charges and expenses which they may sustain by reason of the trust hereby in them reposed or willed for their trouble and time and hindrance of bursing in as title about the same.And that one of them shall be responsible for acts,receipts or defaults of the other or others of them nor for more money them shall from time to time be actually received by them respectively .And this I own to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me made.In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eleventh day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty six.
