JOYCE HEWITT 1797

In the name of God,Amen,I JOYCE HEWITT of Beaumont in the Parish of Beaumont in the County of Cumberland,widow, being in perfect health and of sound disposing mind,memory and understanding but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life.Do make publish and declare this my last will and tesatment in manner and form following,that is to say.First it is my will and mind and I do hereby order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expense be paid aforesaid and discharged as soon as may be convenient after my decease give and bequeath unto my grandsonGEORGE HEWITT his heirs and assigns all those my two freehold houses situate,lying and being within the townfields of Beaumont aforesaid commonly called and known by the name Parke? containing by estimated twelve acres by the same more or less.Also one other freehold I have situate,lying and being within the Townfields, Beaumont aforesaid commonly called or known by the name of Hythe?

I have by estimation four acres to the same more or less.To hold the said three freeholds closes with there and every appurtenances unto the said GEORGE HEWITT

his heirs and assigns for ever.Subject neverthe lees to be charged and chargeable with thereof following legacies,I give and bequeath to my granddaughter MARGERET HEWITT twenty pounds of lawful money of Great britain.I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter JANE HEWITT the sum of twenty pounds of like lawful money.I give unto my grand daughter JANE STORDY the sum of ten pounds of like lawful money give and bequeath unto my grand daughter ELIZABETH STORDY of like lawful money.All which legacies I order and direct shall be paid to the said legatees as they shall severally or respectively attain the age of twenty one years of age.I give and bequeath unto my sister ELIZABETH WILKINSON the sum of two guineas of lawful money of Great Britain.I give and bequeath unto my niece and servant ISOBELLA ROBINSON the sum of five pounds of like lawful money which said last two mentioned legacies I order and direct shall be paid to the said legatees within twelve calendar months after my decease give and bequeath unto my grand daughter MARGERET HEWITT my better brass kettle.I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter JANE HEWITT my better oak chest with drawers.I also give and bequeath unto my said two grand daughters MARGERET HEWITT and JANE HEWITT all my bedding and linen and whatsoever to divide equally between them,share and share alike to be delivered to them within twelve calendar months of my decease.[except the yellow bed and bedding.,clothes above the stairs over the parlour which I give and bequeath unto my grand son GEORGE HEWITT}I give and bequeath unto my daughter MARGERET STORDY the wife of WILLIAM STORDY all my wearing apparel which I order and direct shall be delivered unto her or soon as convenient after my decease.All the rest of my Goods,chattel,,househod furniture and personnel estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever[the next part is faded and it looks like [Left to grandson George Hewitt]whom I appoint my sole executor.of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke all former and other wills made by me.]

I do confirm this my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof I the said JOYCE HEWITT the testator have to this my last will and testament set my hand and this twenty third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two.JOYCE HEWITT
