JANE HEWITT 1800

I JANE HEWITT of Rickergate in the Parish of St Mary,Carlisle,In the County of Cumberland,spinster,Do make,publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following,that is to say,I give and devise to my two natural daughters JANE HEWITT and MARY HEWITT all that my freehold parcel of ground and lately part of Irthington Common situate and being at a place called Sandhill in the Parish of Irthington about ten acres be the same more or less and al, other my lands,tenaments and real estate whatsoever to hold the same with the appurtenances unto and the use of them the said JANE and Mary in equal shares as tenants in common and not joint tenants their respective heirs and assigns for ever and in case either of them shall die under the age of twenty one years leaving no lawful issue of her body then I give and devise the share and moiety unto the survivor of them their heirs and assigns for ever,and if both of my said daughters shall die under the age of twenty one years of age leaving no lawful issue of their or either of their bodies or body then I give the whole of the said parcel of ground and other premises unto and to the use of my natural daughter THOMASINE HEWITT her heirs and assigns for ever and will and over that in the mean time from my death until my daughter shall severely attain the age aforesaid the annual rents and profits of the said premises shall, be received by my executor and trustee herein after named and by him applied in the maintenance and support of my said daughters[In equal shares subject to the payment of my just debts[This part crossed out]

respectively and as to all my goods,chattels,household furniture,wearing apparel,monies and personnel estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever,I give and bequeath the same unto my said two first named daughters in equal shares subject to payment of my debts and funeral expence,and I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend JOHN BARNES of the City of Carlisle ,Attorney at Law,executor in trust of this my last will and testament to whom I recommend the tuition and guardianship of my two first named daughters during their respective minorities and lastly do hereby revoking all former will or wills by me made,I do declare this to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the thirtieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety seven,

Signed ,sealed ,published and declared by the said testator as her last will and testament in the presence of us who at her request in her presence and in the presence of one another have subscribed our names as witness thereto.The names of my brother JAMES being struck out and the following words interlined in their place thereof in the eighteenth line of the first page before the execution hereof namely,Natural daughters THOMASINE HEWITT her and the words first named,,Once interlined,,
