Hewitt Family Wills
MARY HEWITT 1723
In the name of God,Amen.I MARY HEWITT of Rockcliffe being good in health of body,and of sound and perfect mind and memory,Praise therefore be given to Almighty God,Do make and ordain this my last will and testament,in manner and form following[thatis to say]First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God,praying through the merits ,of death and passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiving of all my sins and to inherit over everlasting life;and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried. at the discretion of my executors herefore named.And as touching the disposition of all such temporal estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me.I give and bequeath thereof as following.
Item:I give unto my son WILLIAM HEWITT one shilling in money.
Item:I give unto my son HENRY HEWITT one shilling on money.
Item:I give unto my son ROBERT HEWITT Half a crown in money.
Item:Igive unto my son THOMAS HEWITT,a rug,a feather bolster and a pair of blankets,which lies in the low room,bed and three pounds in money.
Item:I give unto my daughter Eleanor BURTON,A cupboard proving she die without issue,It reverts back to the executors,And my wearing apparel,linen and woollen.
Item:I give unto my grandchildren,namely WILLIAM,also,HENRY,and to THOMAS,two half crowns apiece.
ITEM;All the residue of my goods,money,movables,household goods,crops,heifers and cows and all sort my other goods whatsoever,I give and bequeath unto my sons JOHN HEWITT and DAVID HEWITT.And also the aforesaid I leave to be my lawful executors and this do make and ratify and confirm to be my last will and testament,revoking all other wills and testaments whatsoever void.

Bond attached Latin text but says Make it known to all men etc. that we JOHN HEWITT of Rockcliffe and DAVID HEWITT of Rockcliffe [sons]
Free bond at Carlisle.December 1773
The condition of this obligation is such that the above named JOHN HEWITT and DAVID HEWITT joint executors of the last will and testament of MARY HEWITT[widow] of Rockcliffe,Do pay all her debts,legacies,aforesaid provide a ful inventry to the Court of her estate.
