MARY HEWITT 1757

Know all men by these present that we WILLIAM MANDELL of Sandraw in the County of Cumberland,yeoman,JOHN DOVER Langrigg of the said County,yeoman,and JOSEPH RAPER of Lowraw in the said County

Are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend ,Father in God ,RICHARD by divine permission ,Lord Bishop of Carlisle in Two hundred pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain,to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or his certain attorney in this behalf,or to his Executors,administrators or Assigns,to which payment well and truly made,We bind ourselves and each of Us,jointly and severally for the whole our each and every of our heirs,executors and administrators firmly by these present,sealed with our seals,dated the twenty eighth day of May in the Thirteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty seven.

The condition of this obligation is such if the above bounden WILLIAM MANDELL sole executor named in the Last will and testament of MARY HEWITT late of Sandraw in the Parish of Bromfield in the said County ,deceased, do well and truly ,execute and perform the Last will and testament of the said deceased and do pay all her debts and legacies so far as her goods will extend and the law shall bind him if also he exhibit into the registry of the Consistory Court of Carlisle,a true and perfect inventory of all and singular goods and chattels and credits of the said deceased and do make a true and just account of the same when he shall be thereunto lawfully called.and moreover if need require enter into a further bond with more sufficient securities as the Judge of the said court for the time being shall think requisite for performance of the promises,and lastly do and shall save harmlels indemnified the above named Lord Bishop,his chancellor,and all other their officers and ministers against all persons whatsoever,by reason of promises.then the said obligation to be void,or else remain in full force and virtue.

I MARY HEWITT of Sandraw in the Parish of Brumfield and County of Cumberland being weak in body but of sound in mind,memory and understanding,Praised be to God,Do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First:I bequeath my soul to Almighty God in hopes of eternal salvation thro the merits of our Saviour,and my body to be buried ,all the expense and discretion of my executors herein after named.

Also;I give and bequeath unto my nephew JOHN CLARK the sum of fifteen pounds.

Also;I give and bequeath unto my niece HANNAH BEWLEY the sum of fifteen pounds.

Also;I give and bequeath unto JOSEPH MANDELL the sum of five pounds to be paid to him when he comes of age of twenty one years.

and the rest residue and remains of my worldly goods,effects,wills,bonds,notes and other securities with all my personnel estate,I give and bequeath unto WILLIAM MANDELL whom I nominate and appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament,hereby revoking all other willsand gifts by me heretofore made.In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of September 1752

On which day personally appeared WILLIAM MANDELL and alleged that he was sole Executor named in the will of MARY HEWITT late of Sandraw

granted to WILIAM MANDRELL

in the presence of ROBERT WARDALE

A true and perfect inventory of the goods,chattels and credits of MARY HEWITT late of Sandraw in the Parish of Bromfield in the County of Cumberland.

Taken and appraised on the 9th February 1757 by

Debts owing to the deceased £80-00-00
