ROBERT HEWITT 1830

This is the last will and testament of me ROBERT HEWITT of Maryport in the County of Cumberland,Master mariner.I give devise and bequeath unto my dear wife SARAH HEWITT all my ships and shares of ships,money and securities for money.And all my household goods,furniture and implements of household plate,linen and china.and all the property real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever,situate over which I have disposing power at the time of my decease.To hold the same to the said SARAH HEWITT during the term of her natural life or so long as she shall remain my widow and from immediately after the death or marriage again of my said wife then I do give and bequeath the above property so herein after given to my said wife to my daughter BELLA[she being inform and unable to provide for her self]To hold the same for her my said daughter BELLA during the term of her natural life,but it is my will and mind that my daughter JANE shall reside with and have the care of my said daughter BELLA and shall on her account receive and take the receipts and profits of all my said property and apply them or so much thereof as shall be necessary for and towards the maintenance and support of my said daughter BELLA and I do will and further direct that my daughter MARY shall reside with my said daughter BELLA and JANE in the house I now reside in[or which hereinafter] and be maintained and supported in the manner she now is until the time of her marriage,but upon her marrying such residence maintenance and support shall cease.I give and bequeath unto my said daughter MARY upon the day of her marriage one bed and bedstead with suitable bedding,also one chest of drawers the same to be taken from amongst the said furniture now in my dwelling house,And upon the death of my said daughter BELLA[my wife also being died] then I do give devise and bequeath all and singular the said ships and shares of ships and all the property as above given to her my said daughter unto my daughter JANE To hold the same to my said daughter JANE during her natural life and from and immediately after the death of them my said wife and daughters BELLA and JANE,then it is my will and mind and I do hereby order and direct that all my ships and shares of ships and all my household furniture and all other of my property,rent and personal shall be put up for sale by public auction or private contract as may seem best and sold without reserve and all the money that shall arise from such sale or sales,I do wish and direct to be equally divided between and amongst my sons JACOB HEWITT and ROBERT HEWITT the younger,my daughters SARAH the wife of JOHN KELLING,mariner,MARTHA the wife of WILLIAM COLLINS,master mariner,the saidMARY HEWITT and my grandson ROBERT GLAISTER,share and share alike,And whereas my said wife is joined with me in the title to the dwelling house in which we reside in,situate in Nelsons Lane in Maryport aforesaid and which dwelling house will of course be the sole property of the survivor of us now is the case I survive my said wife and have power over the said dwelling house that the said dwelling house shall go to and I hereby devise the same to my said daughter BELLA for life and after her death then to my said daughter JANE for life and after the death of them my said daughters BELLA and JANE then I do wish and will that the same dwelling house shall be sold together with my other property and the money to arise from the sale thereof I do hereby direct to be divided equally between and amongst my said sons and daughters and grandson in the same proportions as the produce of my other property,viz,share and share alike.And lastly I do hereby nominate ,constitute and appoint my said wife sole executor of this my last will and testament.In witness thereof the said ROBERT HEWITT have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven.ROBERT HEWITT signed sealed and publicly declared by the said ROBERT HEWITT the testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the prisons of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witness.
