THOMAS HEWITT 1754
In the name of God Amen,July 18th 1754 ,I THOMAS HEWITT of Rockcliffe and Parish of Rockcliffe within the County of Cumberland,Yeoman,being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same,calling to mind the mortality of my body how that it is appointed to all Men once to die.Do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following,first and principally I recommend my soul to God who gave it.I give my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executors.and as for all worldly goods wherewith it as pleased God to endow me in this life.
I give and dispose of as follows.I give unto JAMES HEWITT of Cargo within in the Parish of Stanwix the sum of seventeen pounds.Secondly I give and bequeath unto ANNE my daughter wife of WILLIAM Mc,KNIGHT of Rockcliffe the sum of twenty pounds.thirdly I give unto MARY BOUSTEAD my daughter widow the sum of twenty pounds.Forthly I give all my goods and chattels moveable and imoveable,I give unto ALLEN HEWITT my son whom I appoint my sole executor of this my last will and testament,he paying my just debts and five pounds unto GEORGE HEWITT provided he does not confirm the bargain I made with the said GEORGE HEWITT for the cottage house I now dwell in.
I do hereby renounce all and revoke all former wills and bequests before this time by me willed and bequested and do pronounce and declare this and no other to be my last will and testament.
