Hewitt Family Wills
WILLIAM HEWITT 1661
In the name of God,amen,the seventh day of December 1661.I WILLIAM HEWITT of Rockcliffe in the County of Cumberland,yeoman,being of perfect memory,Praised be to God,do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following,
First;I give and bequeath my soul into the hands Almighty God,my maker hoping through his meritorious death and passion and forgiveness of all my sins and as for my body to be buried in a Christian burial at the decreation of my executors herein after nominated and as for my last will and testament of it in manner and forms foloweth.
Item;I give and bequeath unto my son WILLIAM HEWITT twenty four bushels of oats and thirteen bushels of barley and all the beds,boards and tables and one frame and ten pounds of current English money.
Item;I give and bequeath unto my wife ELINOR HEWITT if she do with,shall all the rest my goods,moveable and immovable to be distributed equally between them and if she do not with shall the one half to return again to my son WILLIAM aforesaid if he lives until the age of twenty one years and if it pleases the law to tell him before he reaches the aforesaid age.
[this does not make sense but it is as written]
I give and bequeath unto JAMES ROBINSON four pounds of the said lawful money and all the rest to be divided between my wife and brother HENRY.
Item;I give and bequeath unto WILLIAM ROBINSON forty shillings into his mothers hand JANE ROBINSON.
Item;I give and bequeath unto my wife ELINOR all my furniture and goods in this house and the one by.I do make this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal the year and date above written.
