Notes on Robert John Airey (Jack) b. 14/3/1876

Married Ruth Ewbanke, daughter of Mr. Thomas Ewbanke of Duckingtree, Kaber in Blackburn on 13/12/1894. The Ewbanke family were related to Dennison’s of Melmerby. After the marriage they returned to Westmorland, eventually settling at Garrigill Bank, Melmerby in Cumberland where the family resided until Jack’s death in 1958, after a fall from his horse.

Notes on George Airey b. 1850

At the time of his marriage in 1875 George Airey was working as a farm servant in Crosby Garrett. He later moved with his family first to Penrith then to Hapton, Lancashire in 1895, finally settling in Clayton-le-Moors.

Notes on Thomas Airey b. 1844 Kirby Lonsdale, Westmorland

Thomas was the eldest son of William Airey b. 1811, and he may have been the first member of the family to move to east Lancs.
